Kippen Street Fayre
The Street Fayre in full swing.
The 2010 Kippen Street Fayre took place today.
The weather was ideal throughout the whole day and the sunshine ensured an excellent turnout.
Both sides of the main street were lined with stalls selling arts and crafts, home baking, confectionary, books, toys, plants and an assortment of bric-a-brack. Many local organisations had fund-raising stalls an a number of charities were also present.
Food and drink was available all day from the Cross Keys Hotel, The Inn at Kippen and Berrit & Brown's all of which provided dining areas in front of their premises. For those who preferred to eat on the go, local butcher Cameron Skinner provided excellent locally-produced hamburgers. The Primary School and the Church were kept busy serving tea, coffee and home baking.
Entertainments were varied and numerous and included live music, competitions, raffles, a bouncy castle and slide for the kids, face-painting, a Magician and a host of other attractions too numerous to mention.

Ploughing Match CancelledThe Buchlyvie Ploughing Match has been cancelled for a second time this year. The cancellation is due to lying snow, (4 inches), and is the second time the match has been called off because of the weather. Re-scheduling a match after a cancellation is no easy task as other matches elswhere have to be respected when fixing a new date. Today was probably the last chance to hold the match this year, but the weather has made this impossible. It is doubtful if another date will be set as the on-going spring work will have claimed any available field. New Healthy Scotch Pie
Cameron with his healthier Scotch Pies
It has been a traditional snack at football matches for decades, but now the Scotch pie has undergone a makeover.
A newly formulated Scotch pie was launched to the nation today at Hampden Park, Scotland's national football stadium. The new pie contains approximately 20% less saturated fat and salt than the industry average, and is being heralded as the potential saviour of Scotland’s much-maligned national diet. Cameron Skinner, the Kippen-based butcher, unveiled his new version of the iconic mutton pie at Hampden Park where, along with football stadiums throughout the country, it’s the most popular takeaway hot snack with football fans.
